I believe our unique experiences and complicated lives hide secrets that can guide us if we know how to find them.

The Directions Wellness Mission

I utilize the power of story to help solve complex health mysteries.

I am a wife and mother. I grow and preserve food for our family and eat as close as we can to the way nature intends. We enjoy time outdoors, and try our best to limit electronics. We are informed by a few good sources each day, but spend more time living life than watching life unfold on TV or our phones.

Born a true Libra, I’m drawn to balance. I struggle most when my scales tip abruptly. I prefer careful consideration to rash judgment. That’s why I’m all about “the both“ in life.  I am open to new ideas and always strive to see both sides of any valid argument.

When it comes to health, I advise everyone to carefully and diligently explore all options and choose what fits them best.

Modern medicine extended my mother’s life by 15 years, and saved my youngest child -repeatedly. Yet, I learned there was a gap between conventional and alternative medicine that needed filling.

That is why I became a functional health practitioner. I bridge the gap between conventional and complementary choices in healthcare. Together, we explore ways to help your body heal with ALL support options.

If you don’t feel well, keep looking for answers. See your doctor(s). Run the tests. Do your research. Keep a journal. And, if you still haven’t found the vitality you seek… join me.

More from Founder & Practitioner, Jackie —

For 30 years, I’ve taught in a wide-variety of fields. Initially, after high school, I helped adults learn to read at the Dr. Martin Luther King Center.

As much as I love reading, I’ve always been fascinated by the healing process, aging, and the wonders of the human body. After college, I earned clinical certification through Health Management Resources in Boston, and worked as a behavioral health educator at Riverside Hospital.

Growing up, I was very close to my grandfather who lived to be over 100 years old. More than 80 years my senior, I valued my time with him. He taught me the power of nature, how to grow my own food and practical ways to keep my body fit. He even taught me how to ride my big two-wheeler bicycle when he was 88 years old!

So, when I was offered the position of Activities Director at Riverside Hospital’s newly built senior living community, I quickly accepted. At Westwood Oaks and Butterfield Court, I provided transportation, education, and activities to promote wellness and longevity through fitness, food, and fun.

Years later, to be home at similar hours to our children, I returned to school to earn my teaching certificate. In the public school setting, I taught a variety of levels and subjects: from kindergarten reading and computer science through junior college writing and literature - for 20 years.

My first experience in alternative health practices began with helping my sweet German Shepherd, Scout. She paralyzed her legs after landing wrong while catching a frisbee. I took her to vets and veterinary schools, but the only offerings were expensive, invasive spine surgeries. I researched alternatives and through trial and error (and the patience of my beautiful canine friend) she regained her ability to walk, run, and even jump! She lived a happy, healthy life by my side for 10 years.

In 2014, I left the public school classroom to care for my son, Abraham, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in kindergarten. To support his healing, I returned to the roots of my health training and expanded it with months of pediatric neuro-oncology clinical experience and education, I worked to become a certified aromatherapist. holistic health practitioner, and biomeridian stress analysis technician. I also hold an international drugless practitioner license.

Currently, I teach functional health - a field I studied, trained, and practiced as a nutrition counselor in 1996 in Washington state. A lot has changed since then in the world, but the tenets and utility of functional medicine remain constant. I help my family, friends, and clients discover their best selves through functional food choices, movement, supplementation, and energy work.
